The Senate budget restored health care for children and the unemployed, and emergency assistance and MassHealth for elderly and disabled legal immigrants. They also increased funding for welfare education and training and homelessness prevention. WE NEED TO DEFEND THESE VICTORIES!
“Hi, my name is _______________. I live [or work] at ___________. Please contact members of the Conference Committee to ask them to support the Senate Version of the budget, which raises new revenue by increasing funding for auditors at the Department of Revenue by $5 million. This will raise at least $50 million in new revenue from corporations and wealthy individuals who are breaking the law and not paying their fair share in taxes (line item 1201-0130).
This new revenue makes it possible to fund the following urgently needed programs:
Welfare:
1) $ 6 million more for welfare education and training programs (line item 4001-1000)
2) Maintaining emergency assistance for legal immigrants (line item 4408-1000)
Health Care:
1) Restoring MassHealth Essential for all 36,000 unemployed people (outside section 292)
2) Restoring MassHealth for elderly and disabled legal immigrants (floor amendment 715)
3) Restoring funding for the Children’s Medical Security Plan, which will eliminate the 14,000 child waiting list (line item 4000-0990)
Housing:
$2 million more for the RAFT program for homelessness prevention (outside section 243)
Thank you."
