On Wednesday, Springfield's City Council will consider home rule legislation that would effectively destroy the right of the city's workers to negotiate a contract with the city. The legislation would do so by modifying existing state collective bargaining laws to shorten the length of time before impasse could be declared. Once impasse is reached, workers would no longer have the power to negotiate.

"Once again, we see a blatant disregard for the basic right of worker's to negotiate over the terms and conditions of their employment. And, once again, we will ensure Romney and his cronies won't get away with it," said Rick Brown, President of the Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO.
